Batemans Bay

>> Sunday, January 25, 2009

Last Saturday we went out for a lil' trip to Batemans Bay. It was a very long 2 hour trip but worth it.A nice, not so quiet little town by the sea. We tried our luck by going to the beaches which were a few mins away from the town centre. They were beautiful but a bit difficult when it comes to bringing the kids because you'd need to walk from the main road.

Just one of the many beaches we found.

We finally settled for a lil' spot to set up our stuff.

All in all it was a fun trip. Next time we go there it'll be for fishing!

Handlebars

A fitting song for a fitting time in the world.

Handlebars by The Flobots

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

Look at me, look at me
hands in the air like it's good to be
ALIVE
and I'm a famous rapper
even when the paths're all crookedy
I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I'm Proud to be an American"
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want cuz, look:

I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome

I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone

Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be
ALIVE
In such a small world
All curled up with a book to read
I can make money open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine sixty four
Miles to a gallon of gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computers survive aquatic conditions
I know how to run a business
And I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance
I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone
I can split the atoms of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule

Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be
Alive and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let'em all die in exasperation
Have'em all healed of their lacerations
Have'em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like'em and
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command
I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite
and I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope
and I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handle bars
No handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

Belconnen Trash & Treasure Market

>> Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Last Sunday we dropped by the market in Belconnen.

It's like a big garage sale that has been going on every Sunday for the last 35 years. Items you can find there range from fresh foods to used furniture.

Location:
Parking Lot, Jamison Centre

Hours:
Sundays 6am-1pm

The market is run by the Rotary Belconnen. Entry for the public is by donation. Sellers pay $15 to set up a stall there. The good thing about this market is that it only allows sellers to sell fruits or vegetables that are home-grown. For antique collectors this is also a great scouting opportunity. 'Cos lets face it, one person's trash/junk is another person's treasure. Cheers.

Bridging The Gaps

>> Sunday, January 11, 2009

The High Commission of Brunei Darussalam invited the Indonesia High Com for a friendly match of badminton last Friday. This activity was initiated by our new High Commissioner, Adnan Jaafar to foster the relationship between Brunei and other Foreign Embassy stationed here in Canberra.

The game was held at the Brunei Embassy

Our strategy: Get our opponents to eat a lot before playing the game. LoL.

This was the first match. The ladies doubles.

I didn't manage to take a lot of pics because I was the umpire for most of the games. So hopefully Zamri will share some of the pics he took of us. Overall it was a lot of fun. I even went against a familiar face during my turn at the game. My doubles partner during the ASEAN badminton tourney last year!

I am really looking forward to the next game. Who knows, maybe it'll be table tennis or indoor football!! Well, whatever it is, its a welcomed activity for us here. :)

...of Past & New Beginnings...

>> Friday, January 9, 2009

A very quiet start to 2009 for us in Canberra. We were at home for the New Year. Sound asleep before 12 midnight. LoL. But my family is excited for 2009 because we have a lot on our list of things to do.

Namely:
  • Alisha's first words.
  • Alisha's first walk.
  • More visits to the places of interest in Canberra with Alisha.
  • Going home to Brunei for the holidays in December!

The main highlight of 2008. The birth the Brunei Berra babies, Alisha & Balqis.

To our readers we wish you all a prosperous 2009.
